A former employee of the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Center in Michigan faces allegations of sexually assaulting two teenage boys within the facility's walls, with charges being filed against 33-year-old Svetlana Kuryanova, ClickOnDetroit reports.

The Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy slammed the acts as among the most disturbing she's seen, Kuryanova of Farmington Hills is now charged with two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, a crime that carries a potential 15-year prison term, the incidents purportedly occurring on April 8 at around 7 p.m., the charges ensued after surveillance video raised concerns leading to a deeper investigation. Detroit Free Press has documented multiple issues at the facility prior to this event, with this being the second time a staff member has been accused of sexual assault; furthermore, the center has been critiqued for overcrowding and understaffing, which critics denounce as inhumane and perilous.

Scheduled for arraignment today, Kuryanova, ensnared within the jurisdictional grasp of the 31st District Court in Hamtramck, The Detroit News notes that the facility had been cited for 60 violations in just the past year, with the vast majority being staff-related errors.

In a statement obtained by ClickOnDetroit, Wayne County's officials reassured that the acts of one individual do not represent the collective efforts of those earnestly serving at the detention center, explicitly stating "This single bad actor is not representative of the values of Wayne County and the hardworking men and women of the Juvenile Detention Facility.  Furthermore, she intentionally circumvented policies, procedures, and security measures that have been put into place to ensure the safety and security of the youth in our care." However Wayne County is firm in its commitment to upholding the integrity of its services, ensuring that those who exploit its youth are met with the full weight of the law, and ensuring the wellbeing of those within its care.
