A recent tire roundup in Hays County has taken a load off the environment, and residents are feeling the relief. The Hays County Environmental Task Force, spearheaded by the Criminal District Attorney’s Office and in partnership with the Capital Area Council of Governments, hosted a Tire Collection Event earlier this month that waved goodbye to over a thousand used tires, according to officials.
"The effort to make Hays County a cleaner, safer home for all of us begins with small steps," said Hays County Criminal District Attorney Kelly Higgins, in an embodiment of local initiative. Higgins praised the community's dedication to keeping their surroundings shipshape. "The lesson I have taken from this event is that even a seemingly trivial things like collecting discarded tires has a real effect on the quality of life for the residents of Hays County," Higgins stated.
The event, which lasted from sunrise until the afternoon, not only decluttered the neighborhood but also helped thwart potential mosquito breeding grounds. Volunteers were hailed from county departments including Transportation, Health, Recycling, Development Services, and the Kyle Police Department – all of whom joined forces to ensure the event's success. The collected tires are now en route to recycling and reuse solutions, giving them a new lease on life beyond the landfill.
Higgins extended heartfelt thanks to the community members, who heeded the call to responsibly dispose of their rubber. "I am very proud of the volunteers who donated a Saturday of labor, and especially proud of the work of the Hays County Environmental Task Force for putting together the event and making sure it was a success," Higgins remarked. With the joint effort of officials, volunteers, and residents, Hays County has indeed rubber-stamped its commitment to ecological responsibility and community welfare.
