Houston is reeling from a gruesome motorway mishap that claimed a life over the weekend. The Houston Police Department is knee-deep in an audit of the circumstances that led to a man's untimely demise last Saturday on Eastex Freeway. The incident, which occurred near the 1000 block around 11:45 a.m., involved a collision between a motorcycle and a Jeep, as reported on the City of Houston news website.
According to authorities, a 59-year-old man journeying north on his black Harley Davidson was thrown onto hard concrete when his bike veered unexpectedly into another lane and collided with a black Jeep Cherokee. The identity of the casualty is pending formal verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The Jeep's driver, a 34-year-old woman, was present when the tragedy unfolded. She stayed at the scene following the collision, a detail that speaks to the aftermath that saw HPD Vehicular Crimes Division's Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer M. Kieta rushing to weave together the frayed ends of this sorrowful event. The woman confirmed not to be under the influence, cooperated fully with law enforcement officials, and was later released after questioning.
First responders from the Houston Fire Department attended swiftly to the exigency, whisking the injured man to Ben Taub General Hospital. However, the man was pronounced dead at the medical facility. The investigation by Houston police continues.
