A blaze that erupted in a Hidden Valley home last Thursday afternoon has left the property with an estimated $75,000 in damage, city officials report. The Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to a call at 1:33 p.m. on the 1100 block of Rainy River Dr. where they found smoke bellowing from a single-story house, according to a statement from the City of Houston.
The firefighters quickly made an offensive attack against the flames and were able to conduct a search to ensure no one was trapped inside securing the utilities in the process; as a result, there were no reported injuries following the incident. They evaluated one resident on the scene, who thankfully did not require further medical attention, and the crews requested the HFD Arson investigators to get to the heart of what sparked the fire.
The investigation concluded that the cause of the fire was accidental, originating around the A/C handler in the attic. This prompt response and diligent effort by the firefighting team saved what could have been a total loss of property and unquantifiable distress to the residents. A total of 32 personnel, including units from Stations 15, 4, 31, 58, 67, 74, 84, 67, and 30, were involved in controlling the blaze, as indicated in the city's official release.
