A man has been charged with the March killing of a transgender woman in Houston, with officials confirming the suspect's arrest late last night.
35-year-old Walter Daniel Saravia Palacios faces a murder charge following the shooting death of Diamond Cameron Brigman, who was tragically gunned down at 9200 Country Creek Drive, authorities said. The Houston Police Department revealed that patrol officers arrived on the scene in the early hours after receiving a shooting call, only to find Brigman with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the Houston Fire Department paramedics' efforts, Brigman, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene, City of Houston reports.
The investigation took a crucial turn when witnesses described a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu LT stopping near Brigman, who was standing roadside. The shooter, then an unidentified male, was described as approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a thin build, and clad in a gray hooded jacket. After opening fire, the suspect fled in the vehicle, which was later found by investigators.
It wasn't until further probing by HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Barrow and J. Caten, that Saravia Palacios emerged as the prime suspect, leading to his arrest on Tuesday, May 28. "Further investigation identified Saravia Palacios as the suspect in this case," detectives said. Saravia Palacios, was then formally charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court.
