A man apprehended by police has been slapped with murder charges in the death of another who was gunned down in southeast Houston earlier this month. The Houston Police Department reported that Jorge Alberto Acosta, 54, is to stand trial accused of shooting Sebastian Maquin-Cuz, who lost his life at 2100 Broadway Street on the evening of May 8.

Official statements describe how HPD's patrol officers discovered Maquin-Cuz, 38, laid out on the grass, a bullet wound rendering him unresponsive. Despite the swift response of paramedics, he was declared dead on the scene. A fatal ending to what began as an altercation, as witnesses claimed that Mr. Maquin-Cruz and an unknown individual were caught up in a heated verbal clash shortly before lead flew, striking the victim mercilessly.

As investigations ensued, detectives A. Ledford and M. Barton of the HPD Homicide Division managed to pinpoint Acosta as the shooter. The breakthrough came on Wednesday (May 22) when Acosta was nabbed by the cops, and he has since confessed involvement in the fateful incident. The suspect is now confined to the Harris County Joint Processing Center, facing the sobering reality of a murder charge handed down by the 179th State District Court.
