Houston Man Fatally Hit by Car While Working in Parking Lot, Police Probe the IncidentSource: Google Street View

A tragic scene unfolded in Houston Thursday afternoon when a man was fatally struck by a car while working on a drain in a parking lot. The Houston Police Department is currently investigating the incident, which occurred around 12:25 p.m. at 2545 Gessner Road.

The victim, a 24-year-old man whose name has not been released, was reportedly bent over a drainage hole when he was hit by a black Dodge Charger. The man, who lay on his stomach, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. He had been working alongside a colleague, who escaped the ordeal unscathed, in the absence of safety cones to warn drivers of their presence.

According to the City of Houston's official news release, HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. James and Officer K. Stanley reported that the lot’s steep entrance potentially obscured the driver’s view of the man on the ground. Despite the tragic outcome, the 53-year-old female driver showed no signs of intoxication and was subsequently released after questioning with no charges filed at the time.

The investigation remains ongoing. More details are expected to follow as the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences work to officially confirm the identity of the deceased individual.
