Houston authorities are peeling back the layers of a dismal scene that unfolded in a Days Inn hotel room in Mission Bend, where the lifeless body of a 4-month-old infant was discovered under circumstances that the Harris County Sheriff's Office has branded "suspicious." The infant was found in a hotel room, located off Rancho Mission Drive, around 1:00 P.M. on Sunday. Major Earl Dean from the Sheriff's office reported that hotel management alerted them after the child, known as Brooklyn, was found not breathing.

According to a release from the sheriff's office, the team is digging into the events leading up to when the infant was found dead. Dean also conveyed they are investigating how the hotel's management became aware of the situation, ABC13 reported. Tragically, Brooklyn did not have a crib. Instead, it appeared she had been sleeping in a drawer.

The inquiry found that Brooklyn had been staying with her parents and a 2-year-old brother. Earl noted that there was no apparent trauma found on Brooklyn’s body but specified that both child abuse and homicide units were called to the scene. The Sheriff's Office later confirmed, through a post, the death of the infant and announced the ongoing investigation at the hotel.

As for the next of kin, the girl's 20-year-old mother and 39-year-old father were taken in for questioning, while the brother has been placed under Child Protective Services' care. The father is also under scrutiny for several active warrants for violent crimes in Polk County. Meanwhile, officials are waiting on the medical examiner’s report to determine the cause of death, which they believe may take weeks.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case, and authorities indicated that it could be weeks before any charges come to fruition if any are deemed necessary at all.
