Houston authorities are on the lookout for a hit-and-run driver who left a woman dead on the interstate Thursday night, the city's police department said. The grim discovery of the adult female's body was made around 10:30 p.m. on the North Freeway, a section of North Interstate Highway 45, according to a statement from the Houston Police Department.

Details about the woman, whose identity remains unconfirmed, are scant as the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences takes on the task of uncovering who she was, but it is believed she was on foot at the time she was struck by the unidentified vehicle which then the driver without hesitation fled the scene failed to stop, or render any form of aid leaving the victim alone in her final moments. No description of the vehicle or the driver has been provided as of yet.

Officials are urging anyone with information that might lead to the apprehension of the culprit to come forward. "Anyone with information on the wanted vehicle or driver is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or speak anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS." said the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Richards and Officer C. Brothers.
