A woman, 61, was fatally struck by a pickup truck on Brisbane Street yesterday morning, according to the Houston police. The incident that unfolded around 8:40 a.m. at 800 Brisbane Street led to the death of a yet-to-be-identified female, whose name remains undisclosed as officials await confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division detailed the grim scene in a statement, revealing that the woman was attending to the rear hatch of her green Chevrolet Tahoe parked at a local business when disaster struck. She found herself pinned between her vehicle and a Ford F-150 that hit her. The impact was severe enough to require immediate medical attention, but despite the prompt response from the Houston Fire Department paramedics who rushed her to an area hospital, she was pronounced deceased.
Houston police reported that the sergeant in charge of the investigation, L. Ross, along with Officer R. Bymaster, interrogated the 21-year-old male driver of the pickup on the spot. The young man claimed that his foot accidentally slipped off the vehicle's brake before it careened into the female victim. After assessments, it was determined the driver was not impaired at the time of the accident.
Despite the catastrophic outcome, no charges were immediately filed against the pickup driver, who was released following the on-scene investigation. The probe into the mechanical ballet that led to this fatal mishap is ongoing.
