A woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place early Monday morning in Houston, authorities said. Shawna Sharell Torrence, 38, faces a charge of aggravated assault of a family member after a man was critically wounded in an incident reported at 12141 Richmond Avenue, according to the City of Houston News. The victim, a 39-year-old male whose identity has yet to be disclosed, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective D. King provided details on the case, noting that the HPD patrol officers were at the scene for an unrelated issue when they were informed of the victim, who had arrived with a critical stab wound, allegedly inflicted by Torrence. The victim, before lapsing into unresponsiveness, claimed Torrence was trying to kill him, the same Torrence who, instead of fleeing tried to seek medical aid for him.

The stabbing apparently followed a night out where Torrence, the male victim, and a witness traveled to several bars. The unfortunate escalation occurred after the two had dropped off the witness, leaving Torrence and the man alone in the vehicle. Torrence, upon noticing the victim's unresponsive state and the bloody wound, immediately rushed him to the Richmond Avenue address for medical help, Houston police stated. He was then airlifted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In the aftermath of the stabbing, the Harris County District Attorney's Office was brought into the loop, and Torrence was charged for her alleged involvement in the tragic event. While the investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, Torrence's booking photo has been released along with the news of her arrest.
