An Anaheim neighborhood was rocked by violence last Friday night when a local man was shot and killed. Jesse Barragan, 38, was found deceased in a liquor store parking lot with a gunshot wound, the Anaheim Police confirmed. The shooting took place on the 900 block of South Anaheim Boulevard.
In the wake of the fatal incident, detectives tirelessly worked through Memorial Day weekend and nabbed a 16-year-old suspect. The juvenile was arrested on Sunday in Garden Grove, as reported by the City of Anaheim official website, and is being held on suspicion of murder.
The authorities have been tight-lipped about further details, but it's believed that the shooting was gang-related. The teenage suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, is now at Orange County Juvenile Hall. Law enforcement continues their investigation into the incident and Barragan’s connections that would shed light on the motive behind the shooting.
While no suspects were initially described, a call for community help went out immediately following the murder. In efforts to gather invaluable information, a statement obtained by CBS News Los Angeles emphasized that witness cooperation is crucial for solving the case, especially from those with insights into the area's gang activities or who may have been present during the tragic event. The Anaheim Police have urged anyone with knowledge regarding the circumstances of Barragan’s death to come forward.
The police ask anyone with information to contact them at 714-321-3669 or to tip anonymously through Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS, an appeal echoed in reports by Hoodline. Barragan’s unexpected death has left the community searching for answers and justice in a situation all too familiar in urban America's struggle with gang violence.
