A Knoxville family is mourning the tragic loss of their 6-week-old son, Ezra Mansoor, after their family dog attacked the infant while he was in his crib. According to WBIR, the attack occurred on May 24, and the child was pronounced dead on Thursday.
Chloe Mansoor, Ezra's mother, said in a statement obtained by WVLT, "Being his mom was the biggest honor and the best thing I’ve ever done." The family's husky, which had been a part of the household for eight years without displaying any prior signs of aggression, was the perpetrator of the unprovoked attack. "It could be any dog at any time. Completely unprovoked, no matter what the history is," Mansoor added, expressing a warning to other parents about the unpredictability of such incidents.
The child's passing has prompted a standard protocol investigation by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, but no further details can be provided as the case involves a minor. In light of their loss, Mansoor's family has decided to have Ezra be an organ donor, hoping to help save other lives, as mentioned in a statement to WATE.
Following state law, the family dog was taken to Young-Williams Animal Center and placed under a 10-day bite quarantine. "Young-Williams Animal Center is holding an adult dog following an incident in which an infant was reported to have been injured in Knoxville on May 24, 2024. The dog is under a 10-day bite quarantine as required by state law,” the center confirmed in a brief statement. The Mansoor family, enveloped in grief, now look to honor Ezra's memory and hope that his story can serve as a cautionary tale for the potential dangers of mixing family pets and small children.
