A man was fatally shot in Knoxville's Morningside neighborhood, prompting an ongoing investigation, officials said. The Knoxville Police Department responded to a call on Tuesday, just before midnight, finding a man critically wounded by gunfire.

The shooting took place in the 1800 block of Prospect Place, where officers discovered the victim on the ground, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to a statement from the Knoxville Police Department. The man was quickly transported from the scene, to the UT Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

With no suspects identified and details sparse, Knoxville detectives are scouring the neighborhood for leads and have asked for public assistance. In an appeal for witnesses, anyone with information regarding the crime is encouraged to reach out anonymously to the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers.
