A late-night hit-and-run incident has the Knoxville Police Department piecing together the circumstances of a car found overturned and abandoned. The single-vehicle crash along Maryville Pike in South Knoxville, which occurred either late Friday night or early Saturday morning, has raised concerns of possible alcohol involvement after officers discovered beer bottles inside the vehicle, WATE reports.
KPD is currently investigating the situation, with a primary goal of locating the car's occupants, who are yet unaccounted for. No apparent harm came to other persons or objects. Police have since initiated a search for the driver or any passengers, checking local hospitals for potential arrivals seeking treatment post-crash, according to WVLT.
The Knoxville Police Department has made it emphatically clear that driving under the influence is inexcusable and entirely avoidable. "There is absolutely no reason for driving under the influence," KPD announced, advocating for the use of sober drivers or ride-sharing applications for anyone who has consumed alcohol, WBIR reports.
At this point, the investigation remains ongoing as the KPD works diligently to unravel the events that led to this abandoned scene. Officials urge anyone with information regarding the incident, to come forward.
