A late-night blaze that erupted in the Kingwood area has caused significant damage to a residential property, officials say. The Houston Fire Department reported to a house fire on May 16, 2024, at approximately 11:42 p.m. in the 3700 block of Echo Mountain Dr. Despite the late hour, there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
Firefighters were quick to respond to the emergency call, arriving to discover flames emanating from the home's garage. An initial offensive operation was launched to combat the fire. Fire crews were compelled to momentarily retreat and to quickly switch to a defensive strategy when conditions within the burning structure began to rapidly worsen. After gaining control, the personnel proceeded to ventilate the roof and returned to an offensive stance to thoroughly extinguish the remnants of the fire. The total estimated damage to the property stands at about $175,000, whereas approximately $275,000 in property value was salvaged.
The Houston Fire Department has not yet determined the cause of the fire. HFD arson investigators have been brought in to establish the origin. According to the city's news release, the investigation is ongoing. Support and response to this incident included crews from Stations 23, 102, 103, and the Porter Fire Department. All teams worked collaboratively to manage and finally put out the fire.
