Lynnwood police are on the lookout for a crafty thief who swiped over $1,000 from a teenager at a local thrift store, in a community still reeling from multiple burglaries earlier this year. The incident, which unfolded at Bella's Voice—a non-profit organization operating two stores selling clothing and furniture—was captured on surveillance video, showing an all too brief moment when a family's hope and hard-earned money vanished into thin air.
The unsuspecting family, according to KOMO News, placed a pouch containing the cash on a dresser while they moved items to their vehicle. In less than the span of a minute, the pouch was gone—much to the devastation of the teen who had saved for months to contribute to his family's new apartment furnishings.
Footage reveals a woman spotting the bag, checking its contents, then nonchalantly taking it. Rather than dashing off, she coolly walked around the store before making her exit. The family later returned to resume moving furniture, only to realize that their financial lifeline had been stolen. Lynnwood Police have since urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the suspect's identity, as reported by KIRO 7.
The local community, already unsettled from recent burglaries that impacted Bella's Voice—resulting in the loss of electronics and other donations—is now grappling with an act of theft striking directly at the vulnerable. "It was heartbreaking – because it was all their money," Hoffman stated in an interview with KING 5. The store's owner, Tina Muirhead, expressed a renewed vigor in seeing justice served, especially considering that the victim was of a youth and customer of Bella's Voice.
The Lynnwood police department continues to investigate the theft and is actively searching for leads that could help in identifying the perpetrator of this crime. As a community that has shown resilience in the face of adversity, the people of Lynnwood are called upon once again to stand up against such acts of violation and extend a hand to those knocked down by circumstances not of their making. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the authorities.
