A Macomb County teen is facing charges for the drive-by shooting death of an 18-year-old in Detroit, authorities confirmed. The deadly incident took place in broad daylight on the city's east side on May 17, at the corner of Whittier and Roxbury streets, ClickOnDetroit reported.

19-year-old Tasean Lamarean Johnson of Eastpointe, identified as the shooter, was arraigned on multiple felony charges, including second-degree murder. His bond was set at a hefty $750,000, and the court required him to wear a GPS tether and remain under house arrest should he make bail, as per Audacy. Driving away from the scene, Johnson allegedly fired multiple shots, fatally striking the young victim, William Shelton, who later succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at the hospital.

Following an investigation after the shooting, Detroit police arrested Johnson on May 20, three days after the tragic event. His charges include second-degree murder, discharging a weapon from a moving vehicle causing death, carrying a concealed weapon, lying to a peace officer, and two counts of felony firearm, according to the Detroit News.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting. Johnson's initial court proceedings are swiftly lined up, with a probable cause conference set for May 30, and a preliminary examination following on June 4, the Detroit News noted. If convicted of the charges against him, Johnson faces serious time - potentially life in prison for the second-degree murder charge alone.
