The University of Michigan police department is actively investigating the incident which, according to the Detroit News, took place between 6:20 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Glen Street Parking Structure located at 333 Glen Avenue.
The details released to this point are scant but what is known is that the alleged assault unfolded within the confines of a car, as the victim and suspect had previously to arrange a meeting via a dating app. FOX 2 Detroit reported the attack occurred around 10:50 p.m., suggesting a possible discrepancy in reported times of the incident. The suspect described as a 22-year-old white male with a dark complexion, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, having a slim build, short dark hair, and a close-cut beard and mustache, was reportedly wearing black pants and a gray shirt.
Authorities have not disclosed much else regarding the ongoing investigation. It has been noted by mlive that neither the victim nor the alleged perpetrator are affiliated with the university. However, this incident raises concerns about safety even for those who are not part of the university community but find themselves in its public spaces.
The suspect was reportedly driving a blue four-door SUV, but no further description of the vehicle has been released by the police at the time.
