Target's security system caught more than just shoplifters this past weekend; it caught the eye of the law when deputies arrested one man who allegedly tried to walk away with more than $400 worth of goods. According to a post on Facebook by Constable Mark Herman's Office, the incident unfolded on April 29, at the retail giant's location on the North Freeway.
It didn't take long for the lawmen to respond. Deputies were called to the scene and were swiftly advised that Christian Cardoza, the male suspect at the heart of the incident, allegedly concealed merchandise and attempted to quickly leave the store without bothering to pay. The stolen items were promptly recovered and handed back to Target, peace seemingly restored to the aisles.
Cardoza's freedom, however, was not as easily restored. "Christian Cardoza was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Theft," said Constable Herman. The accused shoplifter's bond was promptly set at a modest $100.00 out of County Court 9, placing a price on the oversight of a system designed to protect property and preserve retail order.
