Summer's right around the corner and the Mesa Public Library is kick-starting the holiday mood with a Summer Reading program loaded with incentives, designed to keep the whole family glued to the pages. According to mesalibrary.org, beginning June 3, participants of all ages can sign up to earn points for reading, which can be traded for a variety of rewards.

For the little savants not yet fluent in the art of reading, a mere 250 points will score them a bookmark and sticker, and should they manage to accrue 1000 points, they're promised a free book and a chance to spin the 'Wheel of Possibilities' – a game of luck offering an additional prize. The organizers appear to have conjured a plan to not only encourage reading but to also ensure a healthy dose of summer fun.

Teens and adults aren't left out of this literary fiesta, with their own sets of milestones and corresponding loot. Adults hitting the 750-point mark snag an AZ State Parks Pass, Phoenix Mercury Tickets, and a Main Event pass. And completers of the program, those dedicated souls who reach 1000 points, get to enter grand prize drawings that include a selection of prizes from movie packs to LEGOs.

But the library's ambitions stretch beyond just doling out physical rewards. They've added a one-sentence book review contest set to begin on June 1, challenging readers to succinctly express their literary experiences. Participants are also teased with the prospect of 'coming soon' activities like Gameboards and Book BINGO, options to especially ignite the competitive spirit and to diversely delve into new genres or topics.
