A Mexican man has been slapped with a hefty 10-year prison sentence for possessing an appalling stash of child pornography. Felipe De Jesus Solis-Rivera, a 32-year-old from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, was sentenced to 121 months behind bars after a federal court in Del Rio dropped the hammer for his vile acts.
The case unfolded when Solis-Rivera was busted snapping photos of a man in the restroom of an Eagle Pass store, on July 14, 2019. After giving authorities the green light to search his phone, they discovered the shocking images and videos that landed him in hot water. He was nabbed on the same day and handed over to federal custody nine days later, and eventually caved, pleading guilty on July 10, 2021.
The Department of Justice was clear in its denouncement, with U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas confirming the sentencing. The arrest came as part of Project Safe Childhood, the DOJ's rigorous push to shut down the disturbing spread of child sexual exploitation and abuse, originally launched in May 2006.
The joint effort by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Eagle Pass Police Department spelled the end of the road for Solis-Rivera's repugnant activities. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah Spears, Rex Beasley, and Antonio Franco Jr. were the torchbearers of justice spearheading the case prosecution.
