It seems that Michigan parents have staked their claims on the names Noah and Charlotte, which have taken the crown for the most popular baby monikers in the state for 2023, as reported by CBS Detroit. The Social Security Administration's recent release of baby name data reveals that, while nationally Olivia and Liam are the top picks for the fifth consecutive year, Michigan's preferences vary slightly.
The list unveiled by the Social Security Administration also showed that the names Nora, Isla, Aurora, and Amelia for girls, along with Maverick, Hudson, and Carter for boys, are starting to rapidly climb the charts in Michigan. The agency, responsible for tracking these trends, compiles its list from Social Security card applications to ensure not to accidentally miss out on any newborn's name.
Michigan's top ten names, as highlighted by ClickOnDetroit, shows Oliver and Henry as runners-up for boys, and Amelia and Olivia not far behind Charlotte for girls. More traditional names like Jack, Elijah, James for boys and Sophia, Emma, and Ava for girls, steadfastly hold their ground on the top ten list.
Nationwide trends suggest a slightly different story. Besides the unshakable popularity of Olivia and Liam, Mateo has burst onto the scene as a newcomer to the top 10 lists for both boys and girls, as noted by WLNS. The Social Security Administration also reported a dip in birth rates, from 3.66 million in 2022 down to 3.58 million in 2023.
