A man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in Southeast Washington, police say. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is probing the incident, which left Tremaine Nicholson, 42, dead at the scene.

Responding to a 2:01 p.m. call, officers rushed to a home in the 3400 block of 25th Street, Southeast, after reports of a shooting came in. Gunned down inside the residence, Nicholson was found with gunshot wounds. The emergency crew who arrived declared there were no signs of life, and Nicholson, who reportedly had no fixed address, was pronounced deceased, according to the MPD's press release.

As investigations continue, little has been shared about potential suspects or the circumstances leading to the shooting. The MPD has not detailed whether they have any leads or if they believe this was a targeted attack.
