After nearly four decades, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office is intensifying its search for new leads in the unsolved case of Cindy Louise Moore, who vanished without a trace in 1985, as reported by CBS News Detroit. Investigations have hit a dead end over the years, however, authorities remain tenacious in their quest for closure on the enigmatic disappearance of the Metro Detroit mother.
Moore was reportedly last seen leaving her job at the U.S. Postal Service in Troy, before she disappeared on the night of May 23, 1985, she was headed to Warren to pick up her two-year-old son from her estranged husband’s home, then was supposed to go to her parent's place in Independence Township, but Cindy Moore never completed this journey, her car was found a week later outside a Red Roof Inn, presenting more questions than answers. In a chilling detail by WWJ Newsradio, her vehicle was discovered backed into a parking space in front of a room, locked with her belongings inside, and her bank account untouched since that fateful day.
The estranged husband, William Moore, admitted to a history of assault against Cindy Moore, having once grasped her by the throat during an altercation, though he was never arrested or charged about her disappearance, this detail has cast a shadow of suspicion around him, as mentioned by ClickOnDetroit. Authorities painstakingly excavated the backyard of the home and even the pool, which had been filled in, yet no physical evidence was uncovered linking him or anyone else directly to Cindy's disappearance.
Police are now calling for the public's assistance, hoping that the passage of time has loosened the tongues of those who might have been keeping silent, “Sometimes, after years have passed, people that had information or knowledge are more willing to share and come forward, oftentimes the guilt has been weighing on them or the fear has diminished," Sheriff Michael Bouchard was quoted in WWJ Newsradio.
