In a tragic event that shocked a north Harris County community, two teenagers were shot in an incident outside the LakeBridge townhome complex near Bammel, with one teen losing his life and the other hospitalized. The Harris County Sheriff's Office reported that the shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Place Rebecca Lane, a stone's throw away from Kuykendahl Road, on the night preceding Mother's Day.
According to FOX 26 Houston, a 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 15-year-old was rushed to a hospital and is expected to pull through. HCSO Sgt. Greg Pinkins detailed that the juveniles were inside their residence before they stepped outside, only for the calm of the night to be pierced by the sound of several gunshots.
Witnesses in the vicinity claim to have seen two individuals running from the site of the shooting. "They're described as Black males, one [and] skinny, one short with dreads, both wearing black hoodies," Sgt. Pinkins relayed to reporters.
An eyewitness and neighbor, Enji, recounted to KHOU the harrowing moment when the gunshots were fired. "I heard this big boom," she said, stressing the unexpected nature of the incident in what was considered a safe complex and voicing alarm over the need for increased security. Commending her heartfelt concerns, Enji also shared her deep condolences: "It's not like an injury, it's death, and I'm so sorry for that, mom." She expressed hope that divine solace would be granted to the grieving family.
The identity of neither victim has been released, as the investigation by HSCO continues.
