In the early hours of Monday morning, a fire tore through the Zen 5 Sushi restaurant in Pacific Beach, causing significant damage before San Diego fire crews could bring the blaze under control. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the fire at the establishment located at 1130 Garnet Ave. was reported at 1:53 a.m. and extinguished by 2:13 a.m., the Times of San Diego reported.
The incident resulted in an estimated $300,000 worth of damages, with the building sustaining $200,000 in structural harm and approximately $100,000 in content damages. As San Diego firefighters worked to quell the flames, two adults and three children were displaced by the conflagration, a press release by the San Diego Fire Department revealed. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
Early speculation by firefighting personnel at the scene suggests that the fire's origin may have been rooted in the kitchen area, as reported by ABC 10News. Black smoke billowed into the night sky as the fire raged, but the swift response from crews prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses in the dense urban area.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, and there are no definitive answers as to what sparked the devastating event. San Diego Fire-Rescue crews' prompt actions successfully averted a potential spread to residential units housed within the same structure, as the incident was quickly contained, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department incident page indicated.
