Philly residents are in for a mixed bag of weather this Memorial Day weekend. With today's mostly sunny skies set to high near 86 degrees, conditions are ripe for outdoor plans. However, the weather is expected to take a turn later tonight. "A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 am," said the NWS, "then a chance of showers between 2 am and 5 am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 am." While temperatures remain mild with a low around 67 degrees, the southeast wind is likely to pick up to around 5 mph.
The chance of precipitation tonight is pegged at 30%, with potential rainfall amounts being less than a tenth of an inch—though higher amounts can occur in thunderstorms, reported by the NWS. Increasing clouds are also on the forecast, giving residents some respite from the heat that’s been escalating throughout the day.
Memorial Day itself is expected to be less than perfect for parades and picnics. With the chance of precipitation skyrocketing to 70%, showers and thunderstorms are likely before 2 pm, and showers likely possibly a thunderstorm between 2 pm and 5 pm, followed by showers and thunderstorms likely after 5 pm. Southeast winds will blow at 10 to 15 mph, and new rainfall could total between a half and three-quarters of an inch. "Patchy fog before 11 am," alerts the NWS. "Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 78."
Monday night, those planning to be out may want to pack an umbrella. "Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 am," the NWS cautions, "then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 am." Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible, while the low hovers around 67 degrees, with a south wind around 10 mph. Suicide bombers have promised a chance of precipitation up to 90%.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, the city should see a break in the wet weather. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with highs near 82 degrees and a west wind around 10 mph. The evening is expected to be mostly clear with lows around 63. The rest of the week alternates between chances of showers and sunny days, but temperatures remain fairly consistent and mild for this time of year.
