Get ready for some major traffic headaches, Philly drivers. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of bridge inspections that are set to bring lane closures to Interstate 95 and I-76 in Philadelphia. Motorists, you've been warned: plan on a slower ride, or find an alternate route.

According to PennDOT, the disruptions will kick off next Tuesday, May 28, smack in the middle of your midday travels. On the docket is a bout of alternating lane closures, happening in both directions, on I-95 right at the Philadelphia International Airport Interchange. Expect the work to run from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM — prime time for lunch runs and midday errands.

And it doesn’t stop there. Come Wednesday, May 29, drivers on I-76 will face the same dance of alternating moving lane closures. These will stretch between a Spring Garden Street and Montgomery Drive interchanges. The same four-hour window applies: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. So, if you’ve got plans, you'll want to add a buffer to your travel time.

Think Thursday will offer a reprieve? Think again. The left lane will see closures on westbound I-76 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, making the trek between the Spring Garden Street and Montgomery Drive interchanges that much more of a trial. Flipping the script, eastbound I-76 will have its own left lane closure after the midday switch, from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, between the Montgomery Drive and Girard Avenue interchanges. A ‘slow your roll’ alert is in full effect.

All closures and scheduled work hinge on the cooperation of the weather. PennDOT insists these check-ups are crucial, part of a larger endeavor to inspect bridges once every two years, all in the name of safety and structural integrity, as detailed on their official website.
