A mother and daughter were found stabbed to death in the basement of a Northeast Philadelphia home, in an incident that has left residents of Crescentville reeling. The bodies were discovered just after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a CBS News Philadelphia report.
Responding to a call on Bingham Street, police found the women, aged 75 and 58, with multiple stab wounds. Emergency response crews pronounced them dead by 1:45 p.m. Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner, Frank Vanore said the victims appear to be a mother and her daughter, the CBS News Philadelphia elaborated.
Neighbors speaking to NBC Philadelphia expressed their disbelief over the gruesome discovery. One resident, Marylee Rodriguez, called the killings heart-breaking and out of character for the normally safe, family-oriented community. Another neighbor lamented, "Nothing like this happens over here, it's crazy."
While the investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit continues, no arrests have been made, the community stands in shock over the loss. Burkhardt, a neighbor, noted the family's closeness as their daughters frequently visited to check in on the women. "Someone always came, one of the daughters usually, sometimes twice a day, but someone always came to check up on them," he told 6abc.
