Chaos erupted late Saturday night when police were called to disperse a throng of youngsters from a school parking lot, only to confront a nearby shooting incident, authorities said. The ruckus, which involved both juveniles and young adults, was initially a matter of concern for public safety due to the size of the gathering at the corner of 95th Ave N and Noble Parkway.
According to the Brooklyn Park Police Department, the crowd had started to disband without major incident, and many young people retreated across the street to a gas station. It was there that officers heard the sound of gunfire at approximately 11:36 PM. Police quickly swung into action, scouring the area for suspects and evidence. In the fallout of the commotion, officers arrested an individual, for possession of a firearm, in a vehicle different from the one identified in the shooting.
Investigators are actively combing through video surveillance that showed shots were indeed fired from a vehicle within the gas station's parking lot, as per the Brooklyn Park Police Department. The vehicle in question quickly fled the scene. Law enforcement has retrieved and is currently examining the ballistic evidence found on-site to determine the specifics of the crime.
Despite the intensity of the moment and the potential for tragedy, by some grace, no one appears to have been hurt. Police are continuing their investigation, and urge anyone with information to come forward and help bring those responsible to justice. The identity of the arrested individual has not been disclosed as the inquiry continues.
