A violent clash on SR-410 near Sumner and Bonney Lake escalated from a road rage spat to a stabbing incident, leaving one injured and another in custody. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department blog, the confrontation occurred around 3:03 p.m. when a dispute broke out between a motorcyclist and a pickup truck driver.
The incident started with an argument over, whether the motorcycle had been properly yielding. The tiff escalated when the pickup truck circled around the motorcycle and pulled into a restaurant parking lot, with the motorcycle in pursuit. The verbal altercation turned physical and resulted in the truck driver stabbing the 38-year-old motorcyclist in the chest, who, in response, deflated one of the truck's tires to prevent escape, according to the sheriff's department.
Responding officers found the suspect detained and a Sumner Police officer administering first aid to the victim before fire personnel took over. The sheriff's deputies gathered that the events had spiraled from a heated exchange on 166th Ave E onto eastbound SR-410 before reaching the site of the assault.
The suspect, a 64-year-old man was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. The sheriff department's blotter noted that the two men waited for the police to arrive post-assault, a testament to the abrupt and sudden nature of rage turned violent.
