Tragedy struck in Saint Paul Monday evening as police officers fatally shot a woman during what began as a suicide intervention call. The Saint Paul Police Department reported officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1100 block of Rose Avenue East after receiving a distressing call concerning a potential suicide around 7:19 p.m. Upon entering the home, officers were met with an adult woman who subsequently drew a handgun and aimed it at them, as reported by the Saint Paul Minnesota.

The situation escalated, officers discharged their firearms, and consequently, the woman was struck. In the aftermath of the shooting, officers administered first aid to the woman, until Saint Paul Fire medics arrived, only to pronounce her dead at the scene, the department stated in a press release. This incident has led to the involvement of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), which will spearhead the ongoing investigation.

Body camera footage from the officers involved is set to be examined by the BCA as they seek to piece together the exact circumstances of the shooting. In line with the department's policy, the officers have been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure following any officer-involved shooting, according to the Saint Paul Minnesota.

As the BCA takes over the inquiry, questions and further information are being directed to the state agency, as the local department steps back from the case. Presently, there is scant information available to the public, with the BCA holding the reins on new developments. However, any imminent updates on the investigation are expected to come from the BCA as they scrutinize evidence and witness accounts from that fateful Monday encounter.
