In a move that's set to disrupt weekend plans for Saint Paul residents, the city's parks department has announced a temporary shutdown of all recreation centers. The closure, impacting facilities from Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27, coincides with the Memorial Day weekend, traditionally a time when such centers see peak usage from families and individuals looking to commence their summer activities, as per the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation.
The notice, which was posted on the official Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Facebook page, details that regular recreation center hours and specific closures are listed on the city’s website. However, there's a silver lining for swimmers and sunbathers: Lake Phalen Beach and the Highland Park Aquatic Center are gearing up to welcome visitors for pre-season dips, weather permitting, on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Although the city has prepared for an influx of beachgoers by opening Lake Phalen Beach on May 25 and Highland Park Aquatic Center on May 26, attendees are encouraged to check the local weather and plan accordingly.
