San Antonio's Cody Branch Library is throwing a big bash this Saturday to honor its 40 years of service to the community. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., locals are invited to participate in family-friendly games and an array of activities to commemorate this milestone. Kicking off the celebration, a speaking program will feature Library Board of Trustees Vice Chair Jo Ann Harris, Assistant City Manager David W. McCary, and Interim Library Director Kathy Donellan. This event is open to the public and promises to offer a blast from the past with 1980s themed music and board games, according to a statement from the San Antonio Public Library.
The festivities will aim to quickly engage guests in all ages crafts and activities, along with the distribution of limited-edition commemorative buttons, while supplies last. Visitors can also capture memories at a selfie photo booth with keepsake photos to take home. For those eager to rock out, tunes that will be sure to get people jamming are set to include "top hits of 1984."
Located at 11441 Vance Jackson, the Cody Branch Library stands as a beacon of learning amidst the hustle and bustle of San Antonio's north side neighborhoods. In 2023 alone, the library saw nearly 160,000 visitors, positioning it among the top five busiest branches in the city's library system. Proudly carrying the name of former Northside Independent School District Superintendent Edmund Cody, a key proponent for its inception, the library has grown to serve as a vibrant hub for community engagement and literacy.
Over the years, the library has not merely remained static but has evolved to meet the growing needs of its patrons. Renovations and expansions in the late '90s saw the addition of crucial spaces for meeting and study. The Friends of Cody Branch Library, dedicated supporters since its inception, are to continue their tradition of bolstering the library's resources by hosting a used book sale and recruiting new members at the 40th-anniversary event.
