In a string of incidents within the last 24 hours, San Pablo Police Department officers showed off their persistence and ingenuity in apprehending three individuals who thought they could outpace the law. According to a Facebook post by the San Pablo Police Department, their Priority Oriented Policing Division officers caught a man who ran on foot after they tried to stop him in a business district where he had been banned. He was quickly apprehended and placed under arrest.
Later that night, another chase unfolded when a motorcyclist attempted to evade a traffic stop and rocketed down the wrong side of the road at dangerous speeds. San Pablo officers chose not to pursue this due to the potential risk to the public. However, they had aerial backup. The California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Air Operations were tracking from above and followed the rogue rider until he hit a dead-end, leading to his arrest.
The third chase of this 24-hour spree involved a cyclist armed with bolt cutters and other burglary tools. The "Graveyard Officers" acted after noticing his suspicious activity but were initially evaded when the suspect pedaled away. He ditched his bike and attempted to flee by leaping over fences, but the police set up a perimeter that he couldn't overcome. "Once he realized he was surrounded, the man gave up and was placed under arrest," the San Pablo Police said.
San Pablo Police subsequently searched and discovered various burglary tools on the suspect, including a window punch and a shaved key. The three men, part of a larger cohort, were just three of a total of 13 individuals proactively arrested in efforts to secure the city. All were booked into county jail for various crimes. "Needless to say, all three men were booked into county jail for various crimes and none were able to get away thanks to our diligent officers and friends in the sky!" lauded the San Pablo Police on their social media account, giving a nod to the inter-agency cooperation that made these arrests possible.
