Santa Rosa Man Suspected of Burglary and Trespassing After Bizarre Clothed Rooftop StandoffSource: Google Street View

A bizarre sequence of events unfolded in Santa Rosa when a man was arrested after breaking into a home and running away in the homeowner's pants, officials said. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies were called to the scene on Yuba Dr. around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, where they found 45-year-old Ronald Rutherford sans clothing on a nearby rooftop.

According to the sheriff's office, the homeowner arrived to discover Rutherford, a Santa Rosa resident, hiding in a closet, sporting a pair of pants. Once found, Rutherford fled the home, but not before abandoning his clothes and shoes. In a peculiar twist, he later disrobed and ended up naked on the roof of another house. Photos and surveillance footage retrieved by deputies show Rutherford exiting another neighbor's yard in his original attire.

The deputies coaxed Rutherford off the roof, after which he was safely detained without incident. "Deputies told Rutherford to come down off the roof," the Sonoma Sheriff relayed, "Rutherford followed the deputies’ commands, came down off the roof, and was safely detained." The pants he had appropriated from the first home were eventually recovered.

Rutherford is now facing charges of trespassing and burglary and is currently held on $50,000 bail. As per the account given by Rob Dillion, the Sheriff's Office's Public Information Officer, the case number is 240508-013.
