In a harrowing incident of hit-and-run, a motorcyclist was left fighting for his life after a collision with a pickup truck in Santa Rosa on Tuesday. The crash occurred at the busy intersection of Hopper Avenue and Airway Drive, and the driver of the truck involved fled the scene, leaving the victim unconscious on the road.
After several calls from eyewitnesses to 911 around 2:55 pm, Santa Rosa Police Officers and Fire Personnel rushed to the accident site. Upon their arrival, they found the motorcyclist lying unresponsive on the roadway, says the official report. Accident Investigators from the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD), who responded to the scene, worked alongside the medical team to understand the circumstances of the collision and ensure the prompt transportation of the grievously injured motorcyclist to a local hospital.
Information from witnesses indicated that the motorcycle had been moving eastbound on Hopper Avenue and had the green light when the pickup truck, described as a grey or silver Ford F150, made a left turn from westbound Hopper towards southbound Airway, colliding with the motorcycle. Post-impact, the truck driver accelerated away without a pause, to the horror of onlookers.
The anonymous motorcyclist's condition has been classified as life-threatening, and he remains under intensive care. Meanwhile, the Santa Rosa Police are conducting a rigorous investigation to locate the runaway driver, whose vehicle is expected to show significant front-end damage, authorities believe.
Authorities are contacting the public for assistance in tracking down the suspect. If anyone has any information about the crash, they are urged to contact Officer Howard at 707-543-3636.
