High-tech surveillance tools proved crucial for Shelby Township police when they snagged a man accused of cruising around in a hot car. A street camera's eagle eye picked up a stolen 2024 Nissan Altima, leading to an arrest near a fast-food joint, two sources said.

The Flock Safety camera system alerted the cops to a car swiped from Detroit streets. The Shelby Township Police Department detailed the arrest on their Facebook page. The suspect, Jamarius Marcell Jackson, found himself in handcuffs after picking up his drive-thru order on May 2.

According to The Macomb Daily, Jackson is no stranger to the law. He's got a rap sheet that runs longer than a grocery list, with a past conviction in a 2011 armed robbery among other charges. Police Chief Robert Shelide praised the collar, saying, “Mr. Jackson has a long history of criminal activity. I want criminals to think twice before coming to Shelby Township. It’s hard work by our officers that are making this a safe community. Great job by our officers and Flock.”

At the time of his cache of the car, Jackson was reportedly carrying multiple IDs and other personal info belonging to others, yet he dodged additional charges. Pegged with receiving and concealing stolen property, Jackson could face up to 10 years in the slammer if convicted. Meanwhile, he's cooling his heels in the county motel, his bond set at $10,000 smackeroos. A preliminary examination waits for him on May 20.
