Austin's airport scene is fastening its seatbelts for a major uptick in activity, with SkyWest Airlines declaring the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) as the location for its new crew base. AUS's CEO, Ghizlane Badawi announced the move that's set to propel the airport into a higher altitude in the aviation industry. "The addition of AUS as a crew base supports the continued growth and vitality of our Airport," Badawi stated in an announcement.
According to the information provided by Austin's official website, SkyWest is banking on this new base to boost its operations, which will primarily support their flights for Delta Air Lines flying on the wings of the Embraer E175 jet. Come this June, the SkyWest team will start with a provisional setup, with plans for permanent digs later in the year. The establishment, of this new base is viewed as a tactical maneuver in the airline's operational game, especially as the world's largest regional flyer looks to climb higher skyward, having ferried over 38 million passengers just the previous year.
SkyWest's Executive Vice President of Operations, Greg Wooley couldn't hold back his enthusiasm. "We’re excited to open SkyWest’s 20th crew domicile at AUS in June,” Wooley gushed. He elaborated on the benefits that the company sees in Austin, "SkyWest’s crew members enjoy more opportunity and flexibility than those at any other regional, and we look forward to continuing to improve and enhance our operations at AUS and beyond."
The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, which acts as a gateway for millions of travelers every year, continues to expand, and the addition of SkyWest Airlines' crew base stands as a testimony to its burgeoning prominence in the Central Texas region. The strategic connection also signals a promising boost for local employment and a smoother ride for Delta-flown passengers who frequently choose Austin as their launchpad or destination.
