Authorities have cuffed a man linked to a rash of high-stakes carjackings terrorizing Southeast D.C., the Metropolitan Police Department announced. After a string of armed and unarmed carjackings, 20-year-old Lamontee Fowler of Southeast was arrested on May 24, equipped with a firearm at the time of his capture.

The spree began on April 27, when a victim was assaulted and faced the barrel of a handgun, as the perpetrator demanded keys before firing shots in the air on the 4400 block of Texas Avenue, Southeast. Continuing its tear, on May 2, a woman parking her car was accosted by an armed suspect who snatched her keys, according to the police report. The carjackings persisted with another incident on May 8, in which the criminal confronted a victim who threw her keys to escape unharmed, as per the MPD's release.

Fowler's apprehension by the MPD’s Robbery Suppression Unit and Carjacking Taskforce marked an end to the alarming episodes. The police charged him with the carjacking offenses alongside possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition, and of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
