A tense standoff in Southeast DC came to a close when Metropolitan Police Department detectives nabbed a 15-year-old in connection with a brazen midday armed robbery, the department reported. The young suspect, a resident of Southeast, stands accused of using force and a firearm to hijack a moped from its rider.
The harrowing incident took place in broad daylight on May 13, around 2:30 p.m. in the 200 block of 37th Place, Southeast. According to the official police report from the Metropolitan Police Department, the teen and his accomplices allegedly accosted the victim and, upon refusal to relinquish the moped, escalated to physical assault and brandished a gun. Ultimately, the suspects wrestled away the victim's property and took off.
The arrest followed an investigation by the MPD's Sixth District detectives, who managed to track down one of the implicated parties. Upon his apprehension, the juvenile was slapped with an armed robbery charge. However, the search is still on for additional perps as the case continues to unfurl.
Police are now appealing to the public for further clues, insisting anyone with information regarding the brazen crime should get in touch. By calling (202) 727-9099 or texting the tip line at 50411, potential informants are standing up a chance at the MPD's offered reward—up to $10,000—for tips paving the way to a conviction on violent crimes committed in the nation's capital.
