Suspect Charged in 2020 Triple Shooting in Northeast, D.C., After Lengthy Investigation

After a long and tedious hunt, the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District detectives have put cuffs on a man linked to a triple shooting dating back to October 2020. The incident, which unfolded on the 600 block of 19th Street, Northeast, resulted in three people sustaining gunshot wounds that survived what could have been a lethal encounter.

On the night of the shooting, October 10, 2020, around 8:32 p.m., officers rushed to the scene after the reports of gunfire. There they discovered two men and a woman, each struggling with the pain of fresh gunshot injuries. They were hastily transported to local hospitals, their injuries serious but not fatal.

Years of investigative work led to a breakthrough when on May 2, authorities arrested 30-year-old Earnest Dangelo Cleveland from Southeast. According to the MPD's announcement, Cleveland is facing a charge of Assault with Intent to Kill, following a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant that brought the cold case back into the spotlight.
