Minnetonka has named Tim Olson as its new police captain, a vet with over two decades under his belt who's looking forward to enhancing ties within the community. Olson, an old hand in law enforcement, was a Champlin Police Department explorer when he first got the itch to don the blue.

"I had an early desire to serve the community as a police officer, driven by the adrenaline-fueled opportunities to apprehend criminals at times," Olson said, as per the City of Minnetonka. Initially joining the Minnetonka department in 2003, Olson climbed the ranks and was tapped as sergeant in April 2021, his new post in the Investigations and Support Services Division promises to be a culmination of years of effort and dedication.

During his tenure, Olson has worn many hats, including handler for his retired police canine, Kato. But it's not all police work for Olson; he fills his off-duty hours with family, friends, and a love for nature that once led him on a harrowing hiking adventure into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, enduring freezing temperatures and the haunting echoes of ice in the dead of winter.

Olson's knack for precision isn't just evident on the rugged trails or while he's on the clock, it bleeds into his passions as a third-generation woodworker, crafting furniture and home décor. "Throughout these past two decades, I've discovered that our police department consistently provides opportunities for both personal and professional growth,” he remarked, as stated in the City of Minnetonka. Olson's craftsmanship is a testament to the same keen attention to detail that he applies to his public service.
