Tragedy struck in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, when a young man's early morning drive ended in gunfire and wreckage. At around 5:44 a.m., a 20-year-old was found inside his vehicle with two gunshot wounds to the head along the 1700 block of Belmont Mansion Drive, NBC Philadelphia reported. The violent act forced his Honda Accord off the road, through two fences, and into a tree in a brutal interruption of life and stillness in the historic park.
Authorities arrived to find the car entangled with the tree, evidence of the violent trajectory that, followed the shots. The unidentified victim was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he remains in extremely critical condition, fighting for his life. While the passenger sustained injuries, they are expected to recover, according to 6ABC.
The Philadelphia Police have not made any arrests, as the search for the shooter continues. The motivations behind the shooting are unclear, and no weapons have been recovered from the scene.
