A 9-year-old boy is currently in critical but stable condition following a near-drowning incident at a Warren apartment complex pool yesterday. According to FOX 2, the child was swimming at the Kings Pointe Apartments on 12 Mile Road when he became unresponsive and was underwater for several minutes before being rescued by adults at the scene. Family members were observed performing CPR on the child until the Warren police and fire units arrived.
As reported by clickondetroit.com, officers confirmed the boy was breathing on his own after assessing him, during which the Warren Fire Department provided medical attention before transporting him to a local hospital. Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton, involved in the pool area responded quickly, commanding the situation, highlighted the swift action by those present as crucial in preventing a tragedy.
The alarming event prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the near-drowning, with detectives speaking to the child's parents and other family members. At approximately 6 p.m., officers and paramedics were on the scene, where they found the boy had already been pulled from the water, according to a statement obtained by WWJ Newsradio. The Warren police officials said the boy remains in "critical but stable condition" as of 8:30 p.m. yesterday.
Commissioner Rushton lamented the lack of attention that often leads to such emergencies, stating, "No one seemed to be paying attention when the child went into the pool," as per FOX 2. Emphasizing the urgency when children are in proximity to water, Rushton added, "It only takes a few seconds." Tragedy, such as otherwise in this situation, can strike within a minute or two, Rushton informed, deploring the commonality of these harrowing occurrences.
