Local entrepreneurs in Bloomington are gearing up for a chance to secure $100,000 to jumpstart their dream businesses. Hatch Bloomington, the competition that's been the talk of the town since early May, is transitioning into a critical phase as community members prepare to have their say. Starting July 29, the public will get to cast their votes to decide which of the top 10 finalists will move forward in what's shaping up to be an exciting showdown in the business world.
The initiative, a collaborative effort between the City and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber, is designed to bolster the local economy by weaving new businesses into the fabric of Bloomington. "Hatch Bloomington is part of the City’s strategic effort to support the small business community and attract fresh investment into Bloomington," the city’s briefing highlighted. This dual focus of community support and economic development positions the city to potentially become a hub of innovation within the greater Twin Cities metropolitan area.
In a testament to the city's entrepreneurial spirit, more than 60 business ideas were submitted for consideration, with only 25 making it to the semifinal round earlier in June. Following presentations on June 26, a panel of nine judges had the task of whittling down the pool to the 10 finalists now vying for the public's favor.
For those looking to weigh in on the outcome, the voting window is tight—August 5 marks the end of the one-week period where votes can be cast. A visit to the contest website offers insights on the contestants and details on the competition's process. As the city anticipates this investment into its small business landscape, the top three finalists who garner the most support will move closer to not only securing the critical funding but also cementing their place in Bloomington's burgeoning business narrative.
