As parts of Atlanta still grapple with the repercussions of a significant water main break, there's a bit of relief for some residents. According to an update from the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, which was published on the city's official website, the boil water advisory has been lifted in areas affected by the break at Joseph E. Boone Blvd. and J.P. Brawley Dr. Tested samples have confirmed that the public water meets or exceeds EPA standards, giving a green light for normal use without boiling.
Despite the progress for some, various communities aren't out of the woods just yet. The advisory is persisting in parts of Midtown, notably near West Peachtree and 11th Street, along with neighborhoods in East Atlanta. It's recommended that those still within the grip of the advisory continue taking precautions. For packed questions on whether your street is still under advisory, residents can search their address on the City's website or simply pick up the phone and dial 311.
Approaching the situation with deliberate focus, Mayor Andre Dickens commented on the ongoing efforts to restore water safety city-wide. "We are currently coordinating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. We have sought their assistance because they have the most experience in handling crisis like this. They will help us develop a plan to assess and evaluate our aging infrastructure," the Mayor stated. This announcement anticipates the arrival of engineers on the ground to begin assessments as early as tomorrow.
Meanwhile, as residents await the full restoration of a safe water supply, the city advises continued adherence to safety protocols in the affected areas. Updates and additional information can be regularly checked through the city's digital platforms, ensuring that every resident stays informed on the latest developments in this public health concern. A concerted effort by municipal departments and federal agencies aims to not only address current issues but also to fortify the infrastructure against future failures.
