Residents of the Armatage Neighborhood can expect to see the continuation of CenterPoint Energy's infrastructure upgrade throughout the summer and fall. The work being carried out by Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor, is focused on replacing a large-diameter steel main and aims to restore the affected areas across the same streets that underwent previous gas line replacements.
According to a correction issued by CenterPoint Energy, it has become apparent that while portions of the project, described as Project 2 of 3, have been completed, additional crews are to quickly begin their work this month with the intention to work into fall. While there is no cost assessment tied to this work, locals can anticipate some disruptions. The crews will commence on 58th Street W., proceeding east from Xerxes Avenue S. towards Upton Avenue S. This phase is expected to span three weeks, after which work will shift to Upton Avenue S., heading north up to 55th Street W., and is slated to last a few months.
Preparedness for certain inconveniences is advised as these undertakings may produce noise, dust, and vibrations, though the primary work is expected to be confined to the roads, sparing sidewalks, and boulevards. As road closures will be necessary to facilitate the welding and joining of steel main segments, detours will be established to redirect traffic. "Traffic will be detoured to one or two blocks over," states the CenterPoint Energy notice, underscoring efforts to minimize disruptions and maintain home access for residents.
The majority of homes should not experience gas interruptions during the steel main replacement, barring a few exceptions. In those cases, the crew has committed to especially coordinating with the impacted homeowners to manage the process. More information regarding the progress can be sought on CenterPoint Energy's website, or by reaching out directly to Hannah Gullickson, the Communication Specialist, via email or phone at 612-321-5546.
CenterPoint Energy has expressed gratitude for the community's patience as the infrastructure improvements are implemented, stating, "We appreciate your patience as we’re upgrading our infrastructure. We wish you a great season!"
