As the summer heats up, residents looking for a dip in Crystal Beach will have to pause their plans. City officials have announced a preventive treatment for swimmer's itch and aquatic plant overgrowth set to take place on Wednesday, June 12. Owing to the application of these treatments, Crystal Beach will be off-limits to swimmers for a full 24-hour period.
In an update posted on the City of Burnsville's official Facebook page, locals were informed that "closure signs at the beach will be removed Thursday morning". While this may disrupt some community members' plans, officials have taken steps to ensure the health of the lake and the safety of beach-goers is the priority.
Anticipating the need for alternative cooling options during this brief beach hiatus, the City has made suggestions for nearby spots that are unaffected by the treatment. Seeking relief from the summer's embrace, residents can visit Cliff Fen Park or Nicollet Commons Park. Both locales boast inviting splash pads that remain open for the public to enjoy when the beach is temporarily inaccessible.
According to the City of Burnsville's recommendations, those looking to beat the heat should consider making a dash for the splash pads at these parks. With the beach's reopening poised for Thursday morning following the successful treatment, the interruption to summer routines seems a minor sacrifice for the broader community health and environmental wellness.
